April 23, 2007 Trying to help after Virginia TechFiled under: Community, Industry Initiatives, News About ASI, Using Ad Specialties One of the things I like to talk about is the “drop-everything-and-help” nature of so many companies in the ad specialty industry. Many times, when unexpected events happen, businesses in our industry and the staff working for them pitch in and help people in need. In the aftermath of last week’s horrific events at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, two ASI members stepped in to contribute what they could. L. R. Silver, of Silver Star Promotions, a distributor in Sarasota, Florida, received a call from a public relations firm representing the Cook Counseling Center at Virginia Tech. The firm was requesting an order for 5,000 orange pens with maroon caps – the college’s colors.

April 8, 2007 Guest Blog: Navigating the Trade Only Show in the U.K.Filed under: Guest Blog, Industry Initiatives, News About ASI From Dale Denham, senior vice president at ASI: I just returned from attending the launch of another trade show, but this time in the United Kingdom, where it seems that some people think there is an opportunity for a better trade show. The show was held in Coventry and hosted by Trade Only, which positioned the show just a few weeks after the Promota Show – held in Birmingham in mid-February. Upon my arrival, unlike most people who visit the U.K., I opted against public transportation and decided to rent a car. I thought it would be a good refresher to drive on the left side of the road, since the last time I did that was in Australia in 2001.

March 14, 2007 What a Year | Ad Specialties Top $18.6 Billion in 2006 – Up 4.5%Filed under: Industry Initiatives, News About ASI Wow. This was quite a year for advertising specialties! (And I’m not usually one for hyperbole, or exclamation points, as my staff knows.) ASI just released the results of its annual industry sales analysis, indicating revenues topped $18.6 billion in 2006 – up 4.5 percent from 2005 and a new record. Congratulations to everyone! What this means is that spending on advertising specialties was almost twice as large as Internet display advertising, nearly five times greater than outdoor advertising and more than cable TV advertising* for the same period, even outpacing the 3.4% growth rate for the United States GDP. Impressive, by any measure.

March 8, 2007 Ad Specialties on MSNBC | Better Industry ExposureFiled under: Education, Industry Initiatives, Media Coverage, News About ASI, Using Ad Specialties In last October’s Counselor magazine I wrote about how I’m often contacted by distributors and suppliers who are frustrated that our industry doesn’t get more media coverage to educate reporters and end-buyers about using advertising specialties.

January 18, 2007 Live From Orlando – Top Ten Ways to be More Successful – Listen inFiled under: Industry Initiatives, News About ASI ASI Show in Orlando kicked off today – with registered attendance over 4,000 – and for Education Day I provided the keynote address to about 300 distributors and suppliers at the Orlando Convention Center.
I spoke about my “Top Ten Ways to be More Successful” and what I believe are ten vital elements that can help define your success in the advertising specialty business and outside of work. Many of these points could be things you’re doing already and may help spark your thinking about how you can inspire clients and how people view your brand – which is very important. |
