{"id":1245,"date":"2011-09-19T17:53:05","date_gmt":"2011-09-19T21:53:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/?p=1245"},"modified":"2011-09-19T18:39:19","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T22:39:19","slug":"what%e2%80%99s-in-your-bag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/2011\/09\/19\/what%e2%80%99s-in-your-bag\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s In Your Bag?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once again our industry is tapping into a growing worldwide trend by capitalizing on the plastic bag bans enacted in states as diverse as Alaska, California and North Carolina, and countries like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2011\/01\/06\/italy-carries-out-plastic-bag-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\">Italy<\/a> and India.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Counselor<\/em>\u2019s 2011 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asicentral.com\/net\/protected\/news\/Counselor\/soi11\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">State of the Industry<\/a> report, bags accounted for 9.7% of all revenue from the sale of promo products last year, or $1.7 billion. And searches for bags in ESP rose more than 10% in the last year, with more than 10,000 bags from over 800 different suppliers currently available.\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asicentral.com\/net\/protected\/news\/Counselor\/soi11\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/bag.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asicentral.com\/asp\/open\/AboutASI\/pressRoom\/index.aspx?id=6608\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> to read our press release about this growing sales phenomenon, which was picked up by nearly 100 media outlets, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/plastic-bag-bans-boost-sales-of-reusable-promo-bags-2011-09-15\" target=\"_blank\">MarketWatch<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetinsider.com\/Press+Releases\/Plastic+Bag+Bans+Boost+Sales+of+Reusable+Promo+Bags\/6790709.html\" target=\"_blank\">StreetInsider.com<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.sfgate.com\/hearst.sfgate\/news\/read\/19476722\/plastic_bag_bans_boost_sales_of_reusable_promo_bags\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco Chronicle<\/a> online and <a href=\"http:\/\/uspolitics.einnews.com\/pr-news\/536579-plastic-bag-bans-boost-sales-of-reusable-promo-bags\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Politics Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>California really seems to be on the cutting edge of this trend. The <em><a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/lanow\/2011\/09\/los-angeles-plastic-paper-bag-ban.html\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Times<\/a> <\/em>reports that a city councilman favors a bag ban that goes even beyond action already taken in other California cities and counties, calling for stores to stop using plastic <em>and<\/em> paper bags.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no question recyclable bags help reduce the billions of plastic bags circulating around the globe. It\u2019s estimated that if each bag is used multiple times \u2013 at least once a week \u2013 four or five reusable bags can replace 520 plastic bags a year.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also no question bags make for terrific marketing vehicles. When compared with other promotional products like pens and caps, bags generate the highest number of ad impressions in a month <strong>\u2013<\/strong> 1,078 for a single bag \u2013 because they\u2019re used repeatedly in and out of the office, and the message they carry is seen by significant numbers of people.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t believe me? Next time you\u2019re at the mall, a grocery store or a college campus, take a look at how many bags \u2013 and advertisers \u2013 you see. I rest my case.<\/p>\n<p>We spoke to distributor Michelle Altobelli of Altobelli Advantage, Inc., who called bags \u201ca functional, usable, ageless item,\u201d and suggests distributors help clients maximize their potential by tying in a marketing program to make it a really worthwhile promotional investment.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s in your bag?
