{"id":25,"date":"2007-04-12T20:57:02","date_gmt":"2007-04-12T20:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/archives\/25"},"modified":"2008-02-04T03:37:19","modified_gmt":"2008-02-04T03:37:19","slug":"baby%e2%80%99s-life-saved-real-heroes-where-we-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/2007\/04\/12\/baby%e2%80%99s-life-saved-real-heroes-where-we-live\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby\u2019s life saved | Real heroes where we live"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I believe that there are many hidden heroes living within our local communities, and that they have an impact on our lives every day through their volunteerism, admirable leadership, and heroic acts.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Maratea, daughter of Jim Maratea, who works at ASI, is one of these people and she was just honored as a Real Hero by The American Red Cross for her bravery in saving the life of her nephew, Derrian.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/Tim_JM_AM_Derrian_FINAL.jpg\" hspace=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Me, with Alex Maratea and nephew, Derrian, and Jim Maratea at a recognition event hosted by the Red Cross.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Alex, eleven years old, performed an amazing rescue when she and her sister, Nikki, were waiting to purchase tickets to board a local train one day last February.<\/p>\n<p>Derrian, just three weeks old at the time, was in his stroller and on the station\u2019s concrete platform with them.<\/p>\n<p>While final arrangements were being made at the cashier\u2019s window, a sudden gust of wind pushed Derrian\u2019s stroller down the platform and over its edge. It landed on the tracks &#8211; four feet below &#8211; and in the path of an oncoming train.<\/p>\n<p>Alex leapt onto the train tracks, took Derrian from the overturned stroller and handed him safely to Nikki, who was standing above.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what an interview from a Philadelphia TV station captured Alex saying as she recalled the event: &#8220;I just jumped down and got him and I said Derrian, it\u2019s going to be fine.
