Even during the stormiest days of the economic crisis, I always looked ahead, knowing a rebound was as certain as the sun \u2013 even if the timing was uncertain.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/graph.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, it\u2019s official. The results of ASI\u2019s exclusive survey of first quarter industry sales show an 11.1%, year-over-year increase among ASI distributor members \u2013 the first increase in seven quarters. This translates to an increase in sales of $353 million over the first quarter of 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Total industry sales for the first quarter of 2010 were $3.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>We released our early findings during the ASI Show New York and this week shared the news via <em>Counselor<\/em> PromoGram and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asicentral.com\/\">www.ASICentral.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The word on the streets is \u201ccautiously optimistic.\u201d While it\u2019ll certainly take some time for the industry to fully rebound to pre-recession numbers \u2013 some economists are predicting four years to fully ease the strain \u2013 perhaps we can finally start to exhale.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some highlights from the survey:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over half (51%) of respondents reported an increase in sales in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the first quarter of 2009.<\/li>\n<li>Larger distributors (more than $1 million in revenue) account for the lion\u2019s share of the industry increase, as they represent approximately three-quarters of industry revenue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To read the entire report, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asicentral.com\/asp\/open\/Research\/IndustrySales\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d particularly like to thank the 53 members of our new panel, comprised of some of the biggest \u201cBig Dogs\u201d in the industry. Each quarter, they\u2019ll allow us to tap their brains \u2013 and check their ledger balances \u2013 through their direct participation in the Sales Study, bringing an added level of consistency to our results.
