{"id":85,"date":"2008-09-24T14:12:56","date_gmt":"2008-09-24T14:12:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/2008\/09\/24\/greetings-from-big-fat-ugly-me\/"},"modified":"2008-09-24T18:36:50","modified_gmt":"2008-09-24T18:36:50","slug":"greetings-from-big-fat-ugly-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/2008\/09\/24\/greetings-from-big-fat-ugly-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Greetings from Big, Fat, Ugly Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Guest blog from Kathy Huston, Advantages magazine editor:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Let me start by saying that I&#8217;m originally from Northern New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>This is why my colleagues here in Trevose, PA make fun of the way I say &#8220;cawfee,&#8221; &#8220;chawklette,&#8221; and &#8220;draws&#8221; (meaning, the things you store clothes in inside your dresser, or as I call it, your &#8220;chest-a-draws.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, as a transplant living in Langhorne &#8211; home of Reedman-Toll Auto World and Sesame Place and a suburb of Philly &#8211; I can say that while I totally disagree with this conclusion, I really don&#8217;t take it too personally that Philadelphians are deemed the ugliest people in the history of the world.<\/p>\n<p>OK, so that&#8217;s taking it a little too far, but the City of Brotherly Love was, in fact, named the city with the ugliest people, according to <em>Travel &amp; Leisure&#8217;s<\/em> &#8220;America&#8217;s Favorite Cities 2008&#8221; survey.\u00a0 Where&#8217;s the love, brother?\u00a0<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/timandrewsblog-asicentral.com\/timblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/Chase_Utley_Final.jpg\" class=\"right\" \/><br \/>\nAnd it&#8217;s not the first time for that dubious distinction either.\u00a0 Have these people never seen Chase Utley?\u00a0 As our editorial intern, Maurin Walchak, says about the second baseman for the Phillies, &#8220;Second-base Chase makes my heart race.&#8221;\u00a0 Agreed.\u00a0 And he is only one of a ton of very attractive Greater Philadelphians.\u00a0 Go to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.phillystylemag.com\/\">www.phillystylemag.com<\/a> to see more.\u00a0 Better yet, come for a visit.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, Philadelphians are allegedly among the least stylish and least friendly.\u00a0 Are they kidding me?\u00a0 As if all that isn&#8217;t insulting enough, last year, the American Obesity Association ranked Philly in the top 10 cities with the fattest populations.\u00a0 Thanks, cheesesteak inventor, soft-pretzel makers&#8230;and yes, you too, Tastykake bakers (I could go for one of each right about now).<\/p>\n<p>The Web site <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brandcurve.com\/philadelphia-fat-and-ugly\">www.brandcurve.com<\/a> says, &#8220;Looks like it&#8217;s time for Philadelphia to revamp, revitalize and rebrand!&#8221; \u00a0On that note, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation did unveil a new marketing campaign just before the summer to entice travelers to visit Philly and its surrounding areas. \u00a0The slogan: &#8220;Philly&#8217;s More Fun.&#8221; \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Maybe one of you clever promotional gurus can help out with a &#8220;Philly&#8217;s Phat&#8221; campaign to combat the &#8220;Philly&#8217;s Fat&#8221; designation.\u00a0 Suppliers, what do you think?\u00a0 Can you help a brother (sister) out?\u00a0 Think &#8220;Phat&#8221; hats; highly attractive bobble-head dolls; T-shirts that say &#8220;Pretty Philadelphian&#8221; and &#8220;Keystone Cool.&#8221;\u00a0 Let&#8217;s turn this thing around.\u00a0 Fellow Philadelphians unite!<\/p>\n<p>Or we can just go drown our sad, fat, ugly sorrows in Yuengling lager, brewed right here in the Greater Philly area.\u00a0 That should add another five pounds, but on a more positive note, even the ugliest Philadelphians will look better through beer goggles.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m joking, Philly!
